The city of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is the county seat of Kootenai County. It is named after the Coeur d'Alene Indians who lived in the area when it was first discovered by French Canadian fur traders. Because of nearby Lake Coeur d'Alene, locals call the city “Lake City” or simply “CDA.”
