The city of Boise is the capital city of Idaho as well as the county seat of Ada County. Boise is what the area was called for as long as people could remember when they established Fort Boise in the early 1800s, and there is no reliable story of how the name came to be. It is pronounced “boy-see,” with the emphasis on the first syllable.
