Peter Tork, whose birth name is Peter Halsten Thorkelson, was born on February 13, 1942 in Lanham, Maryland. His father was an economics professor. He began taking muusic lessons when he was nine and was able at a young age to play the banjo, guitars, and piano. He left home to join the folk music scene in Greenwich Village in New York in the early 1960s. After he was suggested to television producers by his friend Stephen Stills, he auditioned for and got a part in the television series "The Monkees," which became a popular television sitcom as well as a popular music group. The group made six albums, and four of them became number one hits. After the Monkees split up, Peter worked with numerous musicians, including George Harrison. He has been married three times and has three children.
