Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (September 9, 1828 - November 20, 1910) was a Russian author, political thinker, and philosopher. He is most famous for his novels and short stories, the two most famous being "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina." He was converted from atheism to fervent Christianity after reading the teachings, particularly the Sermon on the Mount, and his book, "The Kingdom of God Is Within You" is said to have been important to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi for its ideas on passive resistance. He and his wife Sonya had thirteen children.
