Poet and playwright William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon in England. Although the date of his birth was not recorded, the date of his baptism was April 26, 1564. He was arguably the most famous poet in history and is called the "Bard of Avon." Although he wrote numerous comedies and histories, he is best known for his tragedies, including "Hamlet," Macbeth," "Othello," and "Romeo and Juliet." When he was 18, he married 36-year-old Anne Hathaway, who gave birth to their daughter, Susanna, three months later. Two years later, they had twins, Judith and Hamnet. He died on April 23, 1616, having just turned 52. There is no indication of what his cause of death was.
