Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) was an icon, a singer, and an actor. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, where he lived until his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 13. He would come to be known as "the King of Rock & Roll" or simply "the King." His first huge hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," was a #1 hit in the beginning of 1956.It is impossible to overstate the impact he had as a cultural icon during his life. He was successful in the rock & roll sector as well as gospel, blues, and pop music and is still the best selling solo artist in history with album sales in excess of 600 million. He married his only wife, Priscilla Beaulieu after a seven-year courtship, and they had one child, Lisa Marie. In the 1970s, he became addicted to barbiturates and overdosed at least two times. He was hospitalized due to his addiction to Demerol in the winter of 1973, and he was more and more frequently seen in public unable to speak or sometimes to walk or even stand without falling. He was found on the bathroom floor of his bathroom and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
