Comedian Conan O'Brien was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on April 18, 1963. His father is an epidemiologist and professor of medicine at Harvard, and his mother is an attorney in Boston. The third of six children, he graduated high school as valedictorian and went to college at Harvard where he studied history and literature and graduated magna cum laude. After he graduated, he moved to Los Angeles, where he wrote for a few television shows and performed in improv groups there. In 1988, he got a job as a writer for Saturday Night Live, where he remained for three years. In in 1993, he became the host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where he remained until June of 2009, when he took over the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In January of 2010, when Jay decided he didn't like retirement, Conan left the show, reportedly with a hefty cash consolation prize and a non-compete clause. In November of 2010, his new show aired on TBS. He was married in 2002 to Liz Powel, and they have two children.
