Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 - August 5, 1962), born Normal Jeane Mortenson, was famous as a sex symbol, actress, singer, and model as well as the mistress of United States President John F. Kennedy, among others. Her mother, Gladys, was mentally unstable and could not care for Normal Jeane, who ended up spending most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages. She was married at age 16 to a neighbor, Jimmy Dougherty, and they remained married for four years, until their divorce in 1946. From 1948 until her death in 1962, she was in numerous movies, including "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "Bus Stop," "The Seven Year Itch," and "Some Like It Hot."She was married to Joe DiMaggio very briefly i 1954, and author Arthur Miller from 1956 to 1961. She was also reported to have had affairs with JFK, his brother, Robert Kennedy, and actor Marlon Brando. She died of a barbiturate overdose in Brentwood, California.
