Bob Marley (February 6, 1945 - May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican reggae musician, singer, and songwriter. He was a pioneer of Ska music who would live to make some of the best selling reggae music there ever was. His hits were too numerous to list here, but notable were "I Shot the Sheriff" and "No Woman, No Cry." His Rastafarian faith informed his music. In 197, doctors found that he had a malignant melanoma under one of his toenails. His religious beliefs precluded amputation, but he had the nail bed removed and skin grafts took their place. In 1980, the cancer had spread throughout his body. He died in the hospital in Miami, Florida. His last words to his son, Ziggy, were "Money can't buy life."
