Actor and director Mel Gibson, whose full name is Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson, was born January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York. He moved to Australia with his family when he was still a child, and he still holds dual citizenship with that country and the United States. He has starred in countless blockbusters, including "The Patriot," "Mad Max," and the "Lethal Weapon" series. He also directed and starred in "Braveheart" and directed "The Passion of the Christ." He has conducted a very public battle against his alcoholism, which has gotten him into quite a bit of trouble. He has been accused of misogny, racism, anti-semitism, and homophobia due to his outbursts when he has been drinking. He was married to Robyn Moore Gibson from 1980 until they divorced in 2009. They have seven children. While his divorce was pending, he began dating Oksana Grigorieva, a singer. They had a child and broke up in 2010 amid allegations of domestic abuse and leaked tapes of irate phone conversations with her.
