Theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 - April 18, 1955) was born in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire. He was born to non-observant Ashkenazi Jews. Once He was curious about everything to do with science and mathematics, and although there is a meme suggesting that he had trouble with speech early on, that was not the case. Dr. Einstein developed the general theory of relativity, which is considered one of the basic building blocks of modern physics. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics for "his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect." The photoelectric effect is the one of the foundations of quantum mechanics. He married Mileva Maric in 1903. They had two sons within their marriage and a daughter who was born the year before they were married. Almost nothing is known about the daughter, and it is thought she was either given up for adoption or died of scarlet fever. The couple was divorced in 1919 after living separately for more than five years. He married his first cousin, Elsa Lowenthal, in 1919 after a years-long affair. In 1933, the moved to the United States, and Elsa died in December of 1936. He was instrumental in developing the atomic bomb. He suffered a rupture an already-repaired abdominal aortic aneurysm, and when presented with the option of surgery, he said, "It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share. It is time to go. I will do it elegantly. He died in Princeton Hospital while working on a speech he was scheduled to give on the occasion of Israel's seventh anniversary.
