July 7, 1940 was the day Richard Starkey, Jr. was born. Better known worldwide as Ringo Starr, this founding Beatle was born to a husband and wife who were confectioners in Liverpool. As a child, he had an appendectomy which caused him to develop peritonitis and kept him hospitalized for nearly a year, and tuberculosis, which had him in a sanatorium for two years. These two lengthy stays caused him to have a very difficult time in school as well as causing him to learn to play the drums as part of his treatment in the sanatorium. After the breakup of the Beatles, he did some work with John Lennon and had his own solo career, but he also started his own record label, Ring O'Records, and the company signed about a dozen luminaries.
