John Winston Lennon (October 9, 1940 - December 8, 1980), who later changed his name to John Ono Lennon, was born in Liverpool and raised by his aunt, Mimi. He was half of the lyricists in the Beatles, as well as a vocalist and guitarist. After the breakup of the Beatles, which was, if one believes all that has been written, largely because of John's new relationship with Yoko Ono, whom he later married, John founded the Plastic Ono Band, but mostly, he was retired. At around 10:50 at night on December 8, 1980, John and Yoko were returning to their apartment in the posh Dakota building when he was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman.
