The American rock band called The Beach Boys wwas formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California by three brothers, Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. They were among the first harmonizing surfing bands. Carl was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1997, and he died on February 6, 1998. Brian was the chief songwriter and arranger as well as vocalist producer, and bassist. He spent some time in a mental institution, and years after his first diagnosis with mental illness, his psychologist was stripped of his license for plying Brian with drugs and then taking advantage of him financially. Dennis was inadvertently tied to the Manson family after he picked up Patricia Krenwinkel and Ella Jo Bailey and eventually had them and Charlie Manson as well as some of the Manson Family living with him. He eventually moved out of the house and left it to Manson and his friends. He drowned in 1983, after a day of drinking when he dove into the marina, believing he would be able to retrieve some of his personal things which he had thrown into the water 3 years prior. Mike Love and Al Jardine are still in the band, and Brian Wilson has rejoined them.
