Stoughton, Wisconsin is situated in Dane County, straddling the Yahara River southeast of Madison. It was founded by Luke Stoughton, a Brit from Vermont, in 1847 and became a destination for Norwegian immigrants, who settled the town from 1865 to the early 20th century. Stoughton Wagon Company made its name putting wagon bodies on Model Ts. It is said that the coffee break began in Stoughton, and they celebrate the invention each summer at the Stoughton Coffee Break Festival. The also celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day during the weekend which is closest to May 17 with the Syttende Mai festival.
