Situated in west-central Wisconsin, the city of Eau Clair is the county seat of Eau Claire County, even though pars of the city are located in Chippewa County. Incorporated as a city in 1872 it is named after the Ear Claire River, which itself is named for the French phrase meaning “clear water.” It touts itself as the horseradish capital of the world.
