The city of Leavenworth, Washington, a theme city which is modeled on villages in Bavaria, is in Chelan County. It was established in 1892, the same year the Great Northern Railway began construction on route through the Cascades. It was named in honor of Captain Charles Leavenworth who was the president of the investment company which bought the land which was to become Leavenworth. The town was incorporated in 1906. As one might expect, it is the site of the annual Oktoberfest celebration.
