Norwich, Vermont is situated on the banks of the Connecticut River just across that river from New Hampshire in Windsor County. Its boundaries were established by Governor Benning Wentworth on July 4, 1761 and its first settlers arrived in the area in 1763, upon which time they began clearing the land and building the first buildings. The town was named in honor of Norwich, Connecticut, a town in the state from which they came.
