The New England state of Vermont, known sometimes as the Green Mountain State, was once French territory, but became British territory after the French and Indian War. It was disputed land, with both New Hampshire and New York claiming it belonged to them. It became the Vermont Republic during the American Revolution and was admitted into the Union in 1791. Its capital is Montpelier. Blogs in this category are about Vermont or Vermonters, their history and culture.
