St. George, Utah is the county seat of Washington County and is located on the border between Utah and Arizona. It was established in 1861 as a cotton mission, an integral part of Brigham Young’s call to work toward self-sufficiency for the Mormon church. The town was named in honor of George A. Smith, an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
