Midvale, Utah, in Salt Lake County, was settled as a mining , agricultural, and industrial community in 1851. In 1871, the railroad came through, and the economy got even better. Known as “Bingham Junction,” the town was halfway between the mining communities of Bingham Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon where silver was found, sparking a small silver rush and boom town. Midvale then really began to blossom, with the additions of boarding houses, saloons, hotels, and schools. As with other locations in Utah, Midvale was used as a location for parts of the Stephen King miniseries, “The Stand,” as well as the movie “The Sandlot.”
