The city of Waco is the seat of McLennan County, Texas. It was named after the Wichita Indians who lived there before the European settlements were in place. The Spanish word for them is Huaco, which is pronounced just as Waco is. Stephen Austin pondered destroying the Waco village, but in 1825, he made a treaty with them instead.
