The town of South Padre Island is situated on the long sand-barrier island of Padre Island, Texas. The island is about 130 miles long, with its north end near Corpus Christi and its south end near Port Isabel. The resort town, which is one of the most popular destinations during Spring Break, is part of Cameron County. It was named in honor of an early settler and Catholic priest Jose Nicolas Balli, who was better known as “Padre Balli.”
