Co-located in Collin County and Dallas County, the city of Richardson, Texas is home to the Telecom Corridor, which is part of the Silicon Prairie and which contains more than 25 million square feet of office space and supplies more than 82,600 tech jobs. In the 1840s, it was settled by Tennesseeans and Kentuckians around what is now Richland College. They named the settlement Breckinridge. After the Civil War was over, the Houston and Texas Central Railroad bypassed Breckinridge, coming through the area just northwest of the settlement, so the residents moved northwest so that the center of the village was the railroad. They named the new village Richardson in honor of railroad contractor E.H. Richardson. The town was incorporated in 1925.
