The unincorporated community of Poetry, Texas is co-located in Kaufman, Rockwall, and Hunt Counties and is situated at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 986 and 1565. It was originally called Turner’s Point, and a school and post office were both established in 1858. It was later renamed Poetry after a local shopkeep, Maston Ussery, said that springtime in the area reminded him of a poem. The post office closed in 1905 and the services were consolidated with Terrell.

A couple in Poetry, who describe themselves as an ageless troubadour and a traveling poet, write about life with their 6 dogs and goats in town as well as their friends and their poetry and songs. They also write about the benefits of goats milk over cows milk.

The owner of a small business which sells primitives and fine antiques. She writes about the shop, sales, foul weather, and about random thoughts as well as interesting things she sees on the roads and in town and just outside of town. Her photographs and description of hiding in a closet during a tornado are memorable.
