Lubbock, Texas, is the seat of Lubbock County. Founded in 1890, it was named in honor of Lubbock County, which was in turn named in honor of Thomas Lubbock, former Texas Ranger and brother of Francis Lubbock, who served as Texas Governor during the War Between the States.
