Huntsville, Texas is the county seat of Walker County and home to Sam Houston State University and Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville. It was the home as well as the final resting place of Sam Houston, former President of the Republic of Texas, Governor of the state of Texas, and the general who led the Texian Army into Battle of San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution.
