Situated in Collin and Denton Counties, the city of Frisco, Texas was along the Shawnee Trail, which was used for cattle drives as well as pioneers moving west. Frisco was originally named Emerson, in honor of Francis Emerson, the owner of a farm where the townsite was located. Emerson promised to locate a bank in town if it was named after him. That bank was never established, and due to that fact, as well as the fact that the post office thought that the town of Emberson, in Lamar County, sounded too much like Emerson, the name was changed to Frisco, after the St. Louis, San Francisco and Texas Railway Company, which was commonly called the Frisco.
