The Texas city of Fort Worth is the county seat of Tarrant County and is also in Denton, Parker, and Wise Counties. It was named in honor of Major General William Jenkins Worth, who was second in command to General Zachary Taylor in the Mexican-American War. Worth came up with the idea to line up ten forts on the western Texas frontier.
