The city of El Paso, Texas is the county seat of El Paso County. It lies across the border from the Mexican city of Cuidad Juarez. It gets its name from the Spanish phrase “El paso del norte,” which translates “the pass to the north,” which originally applied to both Juarez and El Paso, which were both part of New Spain.
