The Texas city of Denton, the county seat of Denton County, was incorporated in 1866, a full twenty years after the formation of the county. Both were named in honor of Captain John B. Denton, an early Texas Militiaman. In 1881, the railroad came through and the population began to grow as it became an agricultural hub. In later years, its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex brought even more people and industry, and that’s how it thrives today.
