The city of Azle, Texas is mostly in Tarrant County on State Highway 199, just northwest of Fort Worth. It is also in Parker and Wise Counties. A young physician, James Azle Stewart, moved into a cabin in the area, which was when the official settlement began The first post office in town opened in 1881, and the town was named O’Bar, after the man who got the postal service in town. Two years later, Dr. Steward, who had donated land for the townsite, requested that the name be changed to Azle. The town economy was based almost entirely agricultural products, including watermelons, plums, and dairy farming being among those which produced money.
