The mountain resort city of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is situated in the Sevier County, five miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the home of Dollywood as well as music venues and outlet malls. It was named after an iron forge on the Pigeon River. Revolutionary War veteran Colonel Samuel Wear was the first permanent settler and erected a fort where the Little Pigeon River meets Walden Creek. The fort was a safe haven for early pioneers traveling through the area. In the 1870s, a health resort was founded on the north side of town, and it has been a tourist destination ever since.
