Rutherford County, Tennessee is the county in which La Vergne is. Cherry Shade, an antebellum home built in 1833, sits on 308 acres. It was situated in a strategic position near the railroad, making it an excellent venue to b turned into a battle hospital. A skirmish took place just before the Battle of Murfreesboro and leaving a large hole from a cannon ball in the front of the house, and a Union soldier died inside the house and was buried in the front yard.
