Knoxville, the county seat of Knoxville County Tennessee, was the first capital of the state of Tennessee. It is the seat of Knox County. It saw the arrival of the railroad in 1855, which led to a boon, but citizens were at odds about the secession. It was occupied by the Union Army as well as the Confederate Army at various times during the Civil War.
