The county seat of Madison County, Tennessee is the city of Jackson. It was first settled in 1818 by families from Virginia and Kentucky. It was originally named Alexandria, but in 1822, it was renamed in honor of Andrew Jackson, hero of the War of 1812 and soon-to-bePresident of the United States. Some of the famous residents of Jackson include U.S. Congressman Davy Crocket, famous train engineer Casey Jones, Alamo hero Micajah Autry, and “Silence of the Lambs” author Thomas Harris.
