The county seat of Sumner County, Tennessee is Gallatin, which was named in honor of Albert Gallatin, former Secretary of the Treasury, who served under Thomas Jefferson as well as James Madison. It was founded in order to be the county seat in 1802. When the town was platted the next year, one of the first people to buy land was Andrew Jackson, and Old Hickory Lake was named in honor of President Jackson.
