Settled in 1868, the town of Hudson, South Dakota is situated in Lincoln County and is the easternmost community in the state. One of the pioneers to settle in Hudson was 19-year-old James Bradley, who came to the Dakota Territory from his family’s farm in Appanoose County Iowa. In 1870, he homesteaded 160 acres in Marion County, which prospered greatly and allowed him to relocate to Hudson, which was called Eden at that time. He became a general store owner and soon was appointed Hudson’s first postmaster and though he never ran for public office, he is known as one of the primary founding fathers of Hudson.

This weblog began as one centered around Hudson, South Dakota, but slowly expanded outward. One can still find Hudson posts, both at the beginning of the blog and throughout the rest of the tenure of the weblog. The blogger retired from Madville Times in order to pursue blogging about South Dakota and the Dakotas in general.
