Hot Springs, the county seat of Fall River County, South Dakota is known as a gateway to the Black Hills. The medicinal qualities of the springs for which the city is named led to the establishment in 1907 of the Battle Mountain Sanitarium, 100-bed facility which was meant for those who suffered from tuberculosis and rheumatism. In the early 21st century, it was repurposed to provide acute hospital care, outpatient treatment, and treatment facilities for drug and alcohol treatment and that of PTSD.
