The county seat of Cambria County, Pennsyvania is Ebensburg. It is surrounded by Cambria Township and is located in the Allegheny.Reverend Morgan John Rhys bought the land in 1796 from Dr. Benjamin Rush, one of the founding Fathers of the United States and signer of the Declaration of Independence. It was founded in 1796 by a Congregational minister named Rhees Lloyd led 20 Welsh immigrants from Philadelphia to their new colony in what is now Ebensburg. Within ten years, the village was the county seat. At various times, it was home to wool mills, tanneries, sawmills, and a foundry. Eventually, it became a mountain resort, catering to such luminaries as William H. Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, and even Mary Todd Lincoln. It continues as a mountain spa even until today.
