Dillsburg, Pennsylvania is in York County and is surrounded by Carroll Township. It was named in honor of Matthew Dill, who, some time between 1735 and 1740, immigrated from County Monaghan, Ireland and settled there. The settlement was originally called the Monaghan Settlement. Dill commanded a militia in defense against Indian attacks. In 1749, e became a York County court justice. He died at the age of 52 in 1750. Dillsburg was invaded twice by the Confederate Army during the Gettysburg Campaign.
