The city of Chiloquin, Oregon is in Klamath County through which the Williamson River flows. It served as a campground of sorts for the local Klamath Indians before the Treaty of 1864. It is named in honor of Chief Chay-lo-quin, the war chief of the local tribe. In 1910, the small settlement of shacks and a few tents began to bloom into city it was to later become. The first post office was established with Mary Whittemore as postmistress, in 1912. It was incorporated in 1926.
