Lexington, North Carolina is the county seat of Davidson County. It was settled in 1775 and named by those settlers in honor of Lexington, Massachusetts where the Revolutionary War began with the "Shot Heard Round the World." It was incorporated as a city in 1828, and the local silver mine, Silver Hill Mine, opened in 1838, making it the first working silver mine in the United States.
