Named after the biblical city of the same name, the town of Jericho, Vermont is situated in Chittenden County. It is one of only two towns in the New Hampshire Grants which do not have names which are not namesakes of English towns or English peerage. It was settled in the June of 1763 by charter issued by Benning Wentworth, governor and commander-in-chief of the Province of New Hampshire, commissioned by King George III. The grant of six square miles, containing 23,040 acres, was given to Edward Burling and 65 other people.
