Wooster, Ohio, is the county seat of Wayne County and the site of The College of Wooster. It was named after General David Wooster, who fought in the American Revolution and was considered a war hero. The town was established in 1808, and it was made the county seat in 1811, after county residents lobbied the state legislature to move the seat from Madison to Wooster. It prospered in large part because of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, both of which came through town. In the early part of the 20th century, it had factories making doors, sashes, and blinds as well as paving bricks, carriages, furniture, boilers, pianos, and engines.
