The city of Hilliard, Ohio is in Franklin County. John Reed Hilliard bought 10 acres of farm land in the western part of Franklin County, between the Scioto River and Big Darby Creek in 1852. He platted Hilliard's Station in 1853. In 1854, a post office was designated, and the word "Station" was dropped from the town's name. The Village of Hilliard was incorporated in 1869. In 1886, the Piqua and Indiana Railroad station was built in the center of town. The station became a shipping point for farmers to send their crops a well as farming and living supplies to come into town. The 1950s saw the construction of three residential subdivisions which brought in new residents, and in 1960, Hilliard became a city. In 1962, the railroad stopped running through Hilliard. The Early Television Museum is located in Hilliard.
