The town of Cedar Point, North Carolina is situated in Carteret County. King George III issued a land grant of 2080 acres in western Carteret County to Thomas Lee of Virginia in 1713. In 1765, 1040 acres of that grant were deeded to William Hill, and in 1788, the other 1040 acres were deeded to William Borden. The land was passed down through blood and marriage. One of he prime points of tourism in the town is the Octagon House, known as Swansboro, which was built by shipwrights for landowner Edward Hill, and finished in 1859. Cedar Point is on the Crystal Coast on the Bogue Banks and has remained a small town since its inception. It is sustained by small businesses, agricultural production, and marine fisheries.
