Calabash, North Carolina is located in Brunswick County. This small fishing town is named after the gourds which grow in the area. These gourds were dried out and used by the early settlers as drinking vessels. It is famous for what is known as "Calabash style seafood," which is seafood lightly breaded and fried and then served buffet style. The seafood is served with hushpuppies as a side dish.
