Niagara Falls, New York is located un Niagara County. It is next to the Niagara River and across the United States-Canadian border city of Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is named in honor of the famous waterfalls, Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls, which are collectively known as Niagara Falls and are co-located in both cities. The Europeans who moved into the area in the middle of the 1600s opened businesses and developed infrastructure, and in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Nikola Tesla harnessed the power of the river for electricity. Niagara Falls became known for its inexpensive hydroelectric power. It was incorporated as the City of Niagara Falls in 1892.
