The town of Catskill, New York is part of Green County. It was purchased in 1678 and is the principle town of Green County. The town's soil is fertile and strong and this allowed agriculture to be the most profitable segment of the county. Pine is the most common tree, as are maple and walnut, and oak. Pear trees yield a good amount of fruit. Mountains lie on the southwestern border of town, and though historical accounts of old tell us that there was silver and gold in the mountains, it seems to have been exhausted.
